Lincolnshire County Council is now using its Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) in Lincoln and Boston to take white asbestos waste.
The material – such as plastic lagging, guttering, garage doors and dryer ducting – can be taken free of charge. Please check your waste before you bring it to a HWRC to ensure it is made from asbestos. If you have white asbestos waste that requires disposal you can take it from this week to one of the County Council's two Household Waste Recycling Centres in Lincolnshire Whisby near Lincoln and Boston. Asbestos will not be accepted at other waste centres.
The disposal facilities are free of charge. It is now possible for people to dispose of asbestos safely at Lincoln's household waste recycling centres, following the signing of a formal agreement between Lincolnshire County Council and Imerys, the company which mines and processes white asbestos in the area. Residents can collect a free asbestos bag from their local Household Waste Recycling Centre. The new bags should be used to dispose of all white asbestos waste and are big enough to hold most materials including asbestos sheets, floor tiles and pipe insulation.
