Redcar is a seaside resort and town in North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it lies 7 1⁄2 miles (12 kilometres) east of Middlesbrough on the North Sea coast. It forms part of the borough of Redcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. In 2011, it had a population of 23,902. There has been a settlement at Redcar since at least the Iron Age and there is evidence that Vikings used the seaway below the cliffs at Redcar to reach their outposts at Scarborough and Whitby.
